Support the Clean Energy Jobs Act

Dear Representative,

I'm writing to encourage you to stand up to the big oil and coal lobbyists and support the Clean Energy Jobs Act (Senate Bill 450 / Assembly Bill 649). This legislation is vital to creating new jobs manufacturing, installing and producing renewable energy systems that will help break our dependence of out of state fuels and reduce global warming pollution. Big oil and coal companies make huge profits from foreign oil and coal in other states, please don‘t let them kill or even weaken this legislation.

The Clean Energy Jobs Act significantly ramps up Wisconsin's commitment to renewable energy by increasing our Renewable Portfolio Standard to require 25% of our energy to be produced from renewable resources by the year 2025. Recent studies have shown that this policy will help create more than 15,000 jobs in Wisconsin producing components for, installing and maintaining renewable energy systems that will lead us down a path toward energy independence. Wisconsin is falling behind neighboring states like Illinois and Minnesota who have had renewable energy standards of 25% or more for several years already.

The strong efficiency standards in the bill will ensure that this legislation results in lower energy bills for consumers, not higher like the oil and coal companies would have you believe. By setting targets of reducing statewide energy use 2% by 2015 and 2% every year thereafter, the legislation will also save consumers money on electric bills while putting still more Wisconsinites to work making our homes, schools and businesses more energy efficient.

We also need the transportation policies in the bill that begin to wean us off of foreign oil.
The benefits of this legislation are clear, a cleaner environment and a stronger economy. Please support the Clean Energy Jobs Act.
